Outputs

  1. Sazmining announced Thursday it now sells Proto immersion hashboards to individual and institutional buyers.

  2. Each hashboard delivers roughly 200 TH at around 15 J/TH; owners receive rewards directly to their wallets.

  3. The rollout follows a multi-megawatt supply deal between Sazmining and Proto, Block's (NYSE: XYZ) mining arm.

  4. Sazmining, founded in 2018 in Wyoming, runs renewable-powered facilities in the US, Paraguay and Norway.

  5. Block announced its open bitcoin mining system in January 2022.

Sazmining announced Thursday that it now sells Proto's immersion hashboards directly to individual and institutional buyers through its mining-as-a-service platform, hardware that previously sat mostly with large-scale operators.

Each hashboard delivers roughly 200 TH at around 15 J/TH. Buyers own the machines outright, while Sazmining handles deployment, monitoring and maintenance at a US facility. Mining rewards flow straight to the owner's wallet.

The retail rollout follows a multi-megawatt supply agreement between Sazmining and Proto, the bitcoin mining arm of Jack Dorsey's Block (NYSE: XYZ). Both companies expect to expand the arrangement as demand grows.

What does this change for small-scale miners?

The core shift is ownership structure. A buyer purchases a physical hashboard rather than a hosting contract or hashrate derivative. Sazmining manages operations, but title to the hardware and the mining output remain with the purchaser.

Sazmining's CEO and co-founder, Kent Halliburton, said the commercial model keeps incentives aligned: "Because of our aligned-incentive model, Sazmining only earns when we produce bitcoin for our clients."

Halliburton also framed mining as a diversification method for acquiring bitcoin. Instead of paying the market price on the day of purchase, a miner's effective acquisition cost spreads across the machine's working life.

The operational footprint

Wyoming-based Sazmining, founded in 2018, operates renewable-powered facilities across the US, Paraguay and Norway. The company says its fleet runs more than 20 percentage points ahead of the Bitcoin network's carbon-free share — a disclosure aimed at buyers who weigh energy sourcing in procurement decisions.

Block's mining hardware play

Proto represents Block's move into bitcoin mining hardware. Dorsey has funded bitcoin infrastructure across Cash App's buy-and-send rails and the Bitkey self-custody wallet, and in 2021 he framed mining as the gap: "Bitcoin mining should be as easy as plugging a rig into a power source."

Block formally announced its open bitcoin mining system in January 2022, with the stated goal of making mining "more distributed and efficient." The Sazmining retail channel marks one of the clearest tests yet of whether that distribution thesis can reach buyers outside industrial-scale fleets.

What does this change for the broader market? It opens a direct-to-owner channel for Block's silicon at the individual level, and the multi-megawatt supply deal leaves room to scale if demand materializes.
